The closed joint-stock company "Start in" has successfully implemented a project promoting cooperation between business and science, "Creation of complex geometrically shaped antimicrobial protective surfaces for the prevention of COVID-19".

The goal of this project is to create protective surfaces with complex geometric shapes, characterized by antimicrobial properties. The protective surfaces of complex geometric shapes created during the project will be intended for mass application in order to prevent the spread of the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

Funding and administration agreement with VŠĮ Lithuanian Business Support Agency, signed in accordance with the 2014-2020 European Regional Development Fund program priority 1 "Promotion of scientific research, experimental development and innovation" implementation measure no. 01.2.1-LVPA-T-858-01-0048 R&D studies of COVID-19.
The virus that causes the disease, COVID-19, is mainly spread through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or exhales. These droplets are too heavy to stay in the air, so they quickly fall to the floor or other surfaces. You can get infected by breathing in the virus if you are in close proximity to someone with COVID-19, or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Therefore, systematic and appropriate disinfection of surfaces is very important. Spraying the disinfectant liquid directly on the surfaces of electronic devices can damage the device's structure. The use of various surfaces that are constantly disinfected and frequently cleaned emphasizes the importance of developing new surfaces with antimicrobial properties. By changing the texture of the surfaces we use or coating them with substances that kill bacteria and viruses more quickly, it may be possible to decontaminate infectious organisms before they enter the human body. The goal of the project is to create protective surfaces with complex geometric shapes that have antimicrobial properties. The protective surfaces of complex geometric shape created during the project will be intended for mass application (public and private sectors, educational, medical institutions, household, etc.) in order to prevent the spread of the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

Project financing - EUR 364,277.69 from the European Regional Development Fund.
